This week’s art exhibition plan at the Jehangir Art Gallery opened with Six new exhibitions, one group show and five solo shows, amidst cheerful hustle and bustle of artists, art lovers and enthusiasts.

Auditorium Hall
“Tiger Tales” – A glimpse into three decades of work by Kakubhai Kothari. This is a wonderful exhibition of wildlife photographs focussing on capturing various moods and poses of tigers in their natural habitats. Kakubhai has followed these glorious beasts with utmost patience and silence to reveal their inner rumblings on film. Kothari has also presented his wide collection of vintage cameras which are a rare feast for photography enthusiasts. This is an opportunity for the digital generation to peek into the past of professional tools for photography with analogue cameras.
Exhibition Gallery No. I
“Transcendence” – This is a Group Show of Paintings by artists Bimmi, Jyotiprakash Sethy, Ravi Morya, Shahanshah Mittal and Yashvant Singh.
Bimmi is a self taught artist based at Delhi, who has presented her untitled abstract paintings with dry pastels on paper. She has exhibited her works in India and abroad through 4 solo and several group shows.
Jyotiprakash Sethy is a post graduate in Fine Arts, currently based at New Delhi. He is recipient of several awards including prestigious Lalit Kala Akademi awards twice and The Bombay Art Society. His abstract paintings in dry pastels on paper presented in this exhibition represent his ideas of disengagement and comprehension of living his life in solitude, which have arisen from his observations on the culture of urbanisation and the bustle of monotonous routine.
Ravi Morya is a graduate in Fine Arts, currently based in Delhi. He has presented his works in galleries across Gwalior, Delhi and Mumbai. His abstract works are influenced by perception of the surroundings, especially dilapidated environment residing within the mundane spaces, that often go unnoticed. He uses mix media such as acrylic and paper collage on canvas to create his abstract works.
Shahanshah Mittal is a graduate in Fine Arts currently based in New Delhi. He has exhibited in Mumbai and New Delhi earlier. He has several awards to his credit including Birla Academy award, Prafulla Dahanukar Award and Lalit Kala Akademi award. In this exhibition he has presented untitled abstract works in dry pastel on paper board.
Yashvant Singh is a Postgraduate in Fine Arts, recipient of National award from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. His works encompass diverse themes and media. In this exhibition he has presented untitled abstract works in mix media on canvas.
Exhibition Gallery No. II
“ रान (Raan) An ode to mother earth” – Paintings by Anand Panchal.
This exhibition centres around the theme of the life of the rural folks, their dwellings, farms, crop harvest and elements of nature. The very word ‘Raan’ represents nature in its bounty, which is closely associated with his childhood memories of village life. The human figures in his paintings appear engrossed in their daily life with a backdrop of nature.

“An exhibition of Drawing and Paintings” – Drawings and Paintings by Chikmath F V.
Chikmath F V is a Postgraduate in Fine Arts based in Karnataka. He is a senior artist with over three decades of experience through which he has exhibited widely in India and abroad. He has several awards to his credit including Bombay Art Society, AIFACS, New Delhi and NECA, Nagpur. In this exhibition he has presented his paintings which depict the abstracted female forms that tell a tale of freedom. His drawings presented here are minimalist yet deeply engaging.

“उत्पल” (Utpal) – Paintings by Ganesh Mhatre
Ganesh Mhatre is a Graduate in Painting and Art Teacher Diploma holder, based at Raigad. He has been engaged in Art Direction in films and teaches at Art college at Khopoli. He has exhibited across Maharashtra , Assam and Russia. In this exhibition “Utpal”, Ganesh has presented several of his knife work paintings in a unique style, that are inspired by nature and landscapes.

“Journey of Flow” – Watercolour Paintings by Rupesh Sonar
Through this exhibition, Rupesh Sonar has presented some intimate moments of realization while visiting various places in India such as Rajsthan, Varanasi Ghats, Konkan and Mumbai. He narrates that since childhood he embarked upon a beautiful journey through painting, wherein nature has been a source of inspiration. As he moved through stages of development as an artist, developing skill and depth, his journey led him to experiencing some divine moments of enlightenment and self transformation. He has attempted to depict such moments through over 40 exquisite watercolour paintings in this exhibition.
Art lovers can plan their visit to Jehangir art gallery to experience these wonderful exhibitions until 11th September between 11 am and 7 pm.
