Aghora Tech: Arijoy Bhattacharya’s Artistic Ode to Transformation in Aghori Community

Mumbai, 26th December

In a captivating exploration of spirituality and artistic innovation, Arijoy Bhattacharya, the talented son of renowned artist Sanjay Bhattacharya, unveiled his latest exhibition, ‘Aghora Tech,’ at the esteemed Jehangir Art Gallery in Kala Ghoda from December 25th December.

‘Aghora Tech’ transcends traditional boundaries, merging the minimalist Tantric paintings of Rajasthan with the geometric precision of the Bauhaus movement, as seen in the legendary Krautrock band Kraftwerk’s artwork. The thematic backbone of the exhibition is ‘Aghora,’ a term rich in historical and spiritual significance. According to Arijoy, the drawings are a result of meditations on sacred forms, presenting Aghora as the non-terrible, a path of innate spontaneity.

The exhibition challenges preconceptions surrounding Aghora by focusing on its positive aspects, drawing inspiration from authentic texts. Arijoy sheds light on the contemporary dimension of Aghora, emphasizing the altruistic endeavors of modern saints who actively contribute to societal welfare.

Featuring 22 meticulously crafted drawings in ink on paper, the exhibit showcases Arijoy’s profound exploration of spontaneity in his creations. The artist merges Tantric and Bauhaus influences, using symbolic elements such as triangles representing feminine and masculine principles, circles for celestial orbs and unity, and a color palette dominated by Red, Black, and White, with occasional Blues.

Arijoy Bhattacharya’s artistic journey, guided by his father and Guru, Sanjay Bhattacharya, spans over 18 years. ‘Aghora Tech’ is the promising artist’s second solo exhibition, following numerous contributions to group art shows.

The exhibition invites art enthusiasts to witness Arijoy Bhattacharya’s transformative world, redefining Aghora as a symbol of profound spirituality, unity, and societal service. ‘Aghora Tech’ will be on display at Jehangir Art Gallery, Kala Ghoda, from December 25th to 31st December, 2023, daily from 11 am to 7 pm. Immerse yourself in a show that celebrates the power of creativity to bridge cultures and inspire change.
