The exhibition plan at Jehangir Art Gallery this week has a lineup of six new solo exhibitions, with artists based at diverse locations across Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir, having diverse styles and themes in their artistic expressions. Here is a brief account of these fascinating shows.
Auditorium Hall
A solo exhibition of Sculptures and Drawings by Latika Katt
Latika Katt is a nationally and internationally acclaimed senior artist based in Delhi, with her sculpture studio at a picturesque location at Varanasi. She is the Gold Medalist of the first batch (1966-1971) of BFA at Banaras Hindu University and former Head of Sculpture Deptt at Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi. Her sculptures are in the permanent collections of several prestigious galleries in India including NGMA, New Delhi and NGMA, Mumbai. She has extensively exhibited her works over the past more than four decades at national and international level and has received several prestigious awards including National award from Lalit Kala Akademi. Her sculptures are inspired from nature – plants, trees, animals, insects – natural phenomena in her surroundings and the inner world of the human experience. She uses diverse media such as stone, metal, wood, clay, papier mache and mix media for her stunning creations.

‘REACQUAiNT2’ – A solo exhibition of paintings by Anil Gaikwad
Anil Gaikwad is an accomplished artist based at Bhopal, active in painting, sculpture and ceramics in diverse media. He is formally trained at Govt Institute of Fine Arts, Indore. He has done 20 solo shows and 96 group shows so far at national and international level. He has 11 Awards to his credit including Raza Puruskar and Senior Fellowship from CCRT, Ministry of culture, Govt of India. He has contributed significantly for the collection of lifestyle artifacts of tribes for ‘Tribal Museum’ at Bhopal. His interest in art is to explore forms from different aspects of the worldly life. He presents his current exhibition as “A convergence of diverse experiences realized through consistent expression.”

A solo exhibition of Sculptures, Drawings and Paintings by Kiran Dixit Thacker
Kiran Dixit Thacker is a senior artist who began her training in Fine Arts at Visva Bharati University (WB) during the mid-1960’s, and pursued higher education and advanced training in sculpture from various prestigious institutions in the UK since then, where she established herself as a sculptor. She is currently based in the UK and travels to India intermittently to her abode at Santiniketan. A student of the legendary artist Ram Kinkar Baij, she continues to find inspiration in human life especially the life of women, their issues and role in the society. In the current exhibition, Kiran Dixit Thacker has presented drawings and paintings right from the early era of her career to the most recent works in sculpture. The metallic sculptures on display are life sized figures of women, children, animals and birds, filled with a vibrant emotional content expressed in an energetic style.

‘Touch Me Not’ – A solo exhibition of paintings by Raamji Sharmaa
Raamji Sharmaa is a seasoned Fine artist trained at Gorakhpur University, with an extensive career in painting. He has been consistently exhibiting his beautiful figurative paintings over the past 25 years across galleries in India and abroad. His paintings are in collections in several countries including UK, USA, South Africa, Australia, Germany, Japan, Switzerland and more.

‘Pichwai’ – A solo exhibition of Paintings by M B Sharma
Mukesh Bhanwar Lal Sharma is an acclaimed artist specializing in Pichwai – a traditional art form of Rajasthan. He is an ardent disciple of legendary artist, his father B G Sharma who established the renowned ‘B G Sharma Studio Arts’ at Udaipur, Rajasthan with a motto of “Bringing Art to Life”. This establishment brings finest paintings in traditional and contemporary Indian art with exclusive Pichwai paintings. M B Sharma learned the traditional artistic skills through meticulous practice and hard work right from a tender age of 15, developing expertise in varied painting styles including Pichwai, Mughal, Miniature and also in wildlife and landscape painting. He was awarded as ‘Best Artist (Ivory Painting) in Rajasthan’ by State Govt of Rajasthan. He continues to pass on the legacy of this traditional art form to the young generations through their training and education.

‘Subliminal Gatherings’ – A solo exhibition of Paintings by Mahesh Sharma
Mahesh Sharma is a self-taught contemporary visual artist based at Jammu. A qualified engineer by profession, he got himself trained at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi to pursue his deep interest in art, painting and photography. He has regularly participated in art festivals, and exhibited at Art galleries across Delhi and other parts of India over the past 15 years. His works are majorly abstracts and landscapes, which are inspired from nature, and his practice of meditation and are subtly lyrical. He has developed a unique set of painting techniques through extensive experimentation that reflect his search for the inner self. His current exhibition ‘Subliminal Gatherings’, has a series of paintings that show glimpses of the wonders of nature which have a rhythmic seasonal pattern in their everlasting beauty.

‘Esoteric Abstract Art’ – A solo exhibition of paintings by Karlette Joseph
Karlette Joseph is a Mumbai based contemporary artist who began in traditional art media such as acrylic and ink, thereafter transforming herself into a digital artist. She is a student of psychology and also deeply immersed in philosophy and spirituality, which merge flawlessly in her art. Her art orchestrates a dance of energy and light, a celebration of life’s essence. Bold, vivid hues create a visual symphony, while the patterns add depth, inviting viewers into a world of wonder. Beyond the expressive prowess, Karlette’s art claims to offer solace and ability of battling anxiety. Through her workshops, she imparts the wisdom of art as a balm for the mind, body, and spirit.
Art lovers can plan their visit to Jehangir Art Gallery to experience these wonderful exhibitions until 16th October between 11 am and 7 pm.
