Ace photographer Girish Mistry passes away
Ace photographer Girish Mistry, whose extraordinary talent captured hearts worldwide, tragically passed away on May 22, 2023, following a sudden cardiac arrest. Girish Mistry dedicated nearly four decades to build his illustrious career. He pursued his studies in Art and Science in the United States, acquiring a solid foundation for his artistic endeavors. As a trailblazer, he achieved a significant milestone by successfully introducing front projection technology to the fashion and advertising industry, making him the first Indian photographer to do so. Throughout his journey, Girish served as a Mentor, Ambassador, and Expert for prestigious organizations such as Sony India, Zeiss, Epson, and as Platinum Partner for organizations such as Manfrotto and Gitzo. He also contributed as an Ex Guest-Editor for the Times Journal of Photography, a publication by TOI. Girish conducted numerous workshops for esteemed entities including Kodak India, Canon, Regional photography associations, AIPTIA (All India Photographic Trade and Industry Association), and various premier Art Colleges across India.
Presently, he held the position of Dean at The Shari Academy of Professional Photography and Digital Imaging, India’s sole Silver Jubilee photography school. The academy’s alumni have established themselves as esteemed photographers in India and abroad, solidifying Girish Mistry’s legacy as an influential figure in the field. To name a few, Vikram Bava, Jignesh Jhaveri, Himanshu Seth, Mudita Aeron, Dhruvin Shah, Vivek Sequerira, Ranjan Zingade, Vineet Bhat, Riddhi Parrekh, Bharat Bhirangi, Sachin Chandane, Varun Chawla are notable alumni from the Shari Academy.
During the past three decades, Mistry received several awards and recognitions spanning certificates from the Government and Civic bodies, various Photographers’ Associations, as well as from industry and industry bodies such AIPTIA. He got international recognition as 3 times winner of “10 Most influential People in Photography Industry” Award from Asian Photography.
