Amol Palekar’s Abstract Painting Exhibition at Jehangir!

Renowned actor-director Amol Palekar is set to showcase his abstract oil paintings at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai from 15^th to 20^th November, marking a significant return to his first love – painting.

Palekar, a graduate of the Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai, reveals that he originally started his artistic journey as a professional painter before the allure of acting took center stage for the past five decades. His upcoming exhibition, titled “…through the radiance,” is a culmination of his passion for abstraction, a form of art that has always captivated him.

The veteran actor, now in his fourth innings as an artist at age 79, expresses his comfort in the activity of painting, describing the blank canvas as both a challenge and a reaffirmation of his creative prowess. Palekar’s abstract pieces are devoid of identifiable stories, figures, or landscapes, yet he aims to elicit an emotional response from the viewers through his authorial attempts.

In his artist statement, Palekar questions the perception of abstract art, drawing parallels with the intuitive appreciation of music. He challenges the notion that one need not understand the technicalities of art to appreciate it. His series invites art enthusiasts to explore the aesthetic experience and urges them not to shy away from abstract art by claiming a lack of understanding.
