Four contemporary artists exhibit ‘Millenismal’ in Jehangir!

A group exhibition of four artists – Dattaram Nerurkar, Anupama Dey, Ashwathi Avinash, Bhaskarjyoti Gogoi, titled ‘Millenismal’ has been organized at Jehangir Art Gallery at Mumbai (India) from 30th May to 05th June 2023.

Dattaram Nerurkar is a student of JJ School of Art. He has received a scholarship in France for sculpture. He has participated in many national and international exhibitions. After working in many mediums for sculptures, Dattaram found wood and ‘Chira’ (A type of rock locally known as ‘Jambha dagad’ in Maharashtra) the closest medium. He conjoined Indian philosophy, tradition, culture and modernity in his sculptures. Dattaram’s artworks give visual form to the beauty of a culture that has been present for thousands of years.

Anupama Dey came into the field of painting from a small village in West Bengal. With that background, she is interested in depicting the interrelationships between humans and neglected reptilian animals. Through this type of depiction, she presents the human view of nature on the canvas. Anupama has special expertise in print making. After Corona, she became interested in the paintings of masks. Due to the use of masks, many deaths were avoided during the Corona period. So Anupama was inspired to work in this subject.

Ashwathi Avinash completed her education in ceramics from J J School of Art. She has created many ceramic works including items like tableware and ceramic buttons. Currently, Ashwathi is creating innovative works of art from the fusion of ceramics and wood.

Bhaskarjyoti Gogoi is a painter from Guwahati, Assam. In 2018, he completed his postgraduation in Art from Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh. He has participated in many solo and group exhibitions in Bhopal, New Delhi, Pune, and Mumbai. Bhaskarjyoti’s paintings are influenced by the nature of Assam, which is blessed with rich nature. Bhaskarjyoti has beautifully depicted the life of people in Assam, the complementary life of man and nature in his paintings.

The four artists, namely Anupama Dey, Ashwathi Avinash, Bhaskarjyoti Gogoi, and Dattaram Nerurkar, have crafted a diverse range of experiences by utilizing four distinct forms of expression: printmaking, ceramics, painting, and sculpture. Their artistic endeavors strike a harmonious balance between traditional design and a modern outlook, resulting in a rich tapestry of design elements that transcend the constraints of specific mediums and forms. In doing so, they have created a vibrant rhythm that resonates across their varied artistic creations.

The exhibition will be open for visitors from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.
