Jatin Das Retrospective at NGMA New Delhi

In a splendid event hosted by the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), New Delhi on 2nd December, the art world celebrated the grand launch of the much-anticipated book on the lifelong works of veteran artist Padma Bhushan Jatin Das, titled “Jatin Das – A Retrospective 1963-2023.” The event coincided the 82nd Birthday of Jatin Das. The gathering was graced by the presence of distinguished personalities from various spheres, turning it into a remarkable convergence of art and culture. The book is edited by Jatin Das’s daughter, actor director Nandita Das and elegantly designed by her jointly with her brother Siddhartha.
The dignitaries who attended the event included Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan (Sarod player), Raghu Rai (Photographer), Dr Karan Singh, Amitabh Kant (Senior bureaucrat), Adoor Gopalakrishnan (Filmmaker), Balan Nambiar, Madhavi Parekh and Manu Parekh (Senior artists), Ambassador of Sweden, Director of French Institute, Madhavi Mudgal (Odissi dancer), Laila Tyabji (craft activist), and Taslima Nasrin, (Renowned Writer) and many others across various fields.
The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has supported this artistic endeavor through the NGMA New Delhi, underscoring the significance of Jatin Das’s contributions to the Indian art scene. The retrospective not only encapsulates Jatin Das’s prolific career spanning six decades but also serves as a testament to the evolving narrative of contemporary Indian art. As the book finds its way into the hands of art enthusiasts, it promises to be a cherished chronicle of an artist’s enduring legacy.
An exhibition, titled ‘Jatin Das – A Retrospective: 1963-2023’, is being held at Delhi’s National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) till 7th January 2024. This is a lovely opportunity for art lovers to witness Jatin Das’s paintings on canvas and paper, drawings in conte and ink, watercolours, sculptures, graphics, terracotta, ceramic and porcelain platters, pinch toys; as well as his poems and insights about art and life.
