Bhagwan Chavan Presents ‘Rajatva’ – First Time in Pune at Vesavar!

Pune, 6th November

Senior artist Bhagwan Chavan is presenting his solo exhibition ‘Rajatva’ for the first time in Pune at Vesavar Art Gallery. It is jointly curated by Vesavar Art Gallery and Jooby Yohannan. This grand exhibition of 75 artworks was inaugurated by Mr Amit Danait and Mrs Monica Amit Danait on 5th November.

The theme of ‘Rajatva’ revolves around the concept of ‘Art as a Poetic Expression of Freedom’.  Freedom to creative individuals is the unrestricted ability to express ideas, thoughts, and imagination without constraints, limitations, or oppression. This freedom is essential to fully develop their talents and contribute to culture, society, and human progress.

Bhagwan Chavan found inspiration in the symbolism and the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. Bhagwan Chavan, influenced by J J School of Art masters – Palsikar and Kolte, developed a unique approach to painting. His work, a poetic expression of human emotions, celebrates freedom through dynamic strokes. When India awakened to freedom in 1947, the Indian national flag replaced the British Union Jack. The colours in the Indian national flag have a unique symbolism – saffron symbolizing strength, white for peace, and green for fertility.

As India celebrates 75 years of freedom, the journey of a nation’s freedom and an artist’s vision align in Bhagwan Chavan’s work. Using the original flag size of Indian national flag (2 feet x 3 feet) and the four colors in the national flag, the artist created 75 artworks through the prism of abstraction. It’s a celebration of freedom through art, a harmonious symphony of colors and emotions. This curated collection aims to highlight the struggle Indians took pre-independence and post-independence to gain freedom, its historical significance, and its evolving role in shaping our societies. It also resonates deeply within the human soul that has been a driving force behind countless struggles, revolutions, and philosophical debates throughout history.

Through this awe inspiring exhibition, the artist and curator hope to inspire thoughtful conversations, introspection, and a renewed commitment to upholding the principles of freedom for the betterment of our nation and for our future generations.
