‘RUN AS SLOW AS YOU CAN’

Mumbai, [25 July 2023] – TOILETPAPER, the creative studio and image-based magazine led by esteemed Italian contemporary artist Maurizio Cattelan and photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari, has unveiled its largest exhibition to date, titled ‘RUN AS SLOW AS YOU CAN.’ This exhibition will be showcased from 22nd July to 22nd October 2023 at NMACC, Mumbai. This remarkable showcase immerses visitors into a surreal and oversaturated universe, presenting hyperrealist, absurdist installations and images.

Curated by Mafalda Millies and Roya Sachs of TRIADIC, with Elizabeth Edelman serving as the executive producer, the exhibition presents a unique opportunity to step into the mesmerizing world envisioned by the artistic duo. ‘RUN AS SLOW AS YOU CAN’ explores pop-culture-inspired parallel universes, prompting visitors to question our current reality of hyperconsumption and the overwhelming presence of visual stimulation in our lives.

The exhibition is divided into four distinct chapters, each offering a thought-provoking experience. ‘Take a Left, Right?’ occupies the four floors of Art House, captivating visitors with a photomontage maze that invites them to make choices based on themes of desire, repulsion, irony, and gluttony.

Moving to the second floor, visitors enter ‘Is There Room in the Sky?’ where optical illusions distort perceptions of space and time, evoking a deeper subconscious experience.

The third chapter, ‘A House Is a Building That People Live In,’ challenges the notion of the ‘perfect home’ through deliberate misalignments. Unconventional elements, such as a house without a roof and a swimming pool filled with bananas, disrupt conventional expectations.

‘The Control Room,’ the final chapter, envelops visitors in a monochromatic space adorned with archival objects, images, and works from TOILETPAPER’s Milan headquarters. This immersive setting provides a conceptual culmination of the exhibition, inviting contemplation and introspection.
