Bihar Museum announces Biennale

Patna, Bihar – The Bihar Museum in Patna is set to host the Bihar Museum Biennale 2023, a two-day symposium aimed at exploring curatorial strategies and displays in museums, as well as highlighting the significance of indigenous and intangible cultural heritage. Shri Anjani Kumar Singh, the Director General of Bihar Museum, along with Dr. Alka Pande, the Chief Curator, cordially invite art enthusiasts and cultural experts to attend this prestigious event.

The symposium will kick off on the 8th of August with a keynote address on curatorial strategies and displays in museums. The esteemed speaker for this session will be Prof. Yannick Lintz, President of Musee Guimet in Paris, renowned for her expertise in museum curation.

On the following day, the focus will shift to the exploration of new museum typologies during the first session from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Distinguished speakers include Mr. Stephen Inglis, Director General of Research and Collections at the Canadian Museum of Civilization; Hala Warde, a Lebanese/French architect; and Michael Peter Edson, Director of the Museum of Solutions in Mumbai.

The second session on the 9th of August, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, will delve into the topic of changing the creative industry. Esteemed speakers such as Dr. Pheroza Godrej, Director of Cymroza Art Gallery in Mumbai, and Ms. Rakhi Sarkar, Director of the Centre of International Modern Art, will share their insights. The session will be moderated by Dr. Saryu Doshi, an art historian and author.

Additionally, the symposium will explore the importance of indigenous and intangible cultural heritage. Dr. Lars-Christian Koch, Director of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin derzeit geschlossen in Germany, and Prof. Amareswar Galla PhD, UNESCO Chair on Inclusive Museums & Sustainable Heritage Development at Anant National University in Ahmedabad, will contribute their knowledge during the second session.
